Free-Will Choice and Creating the Future
Free-Will Choice
and Creating the Future
Dr. Helen Wambach was a psychologist who, several decades ago, did research on discovering past lives. She would hypnotically regress large groups of people (she had over 1000 subjects) and then had the participants interviewed in detail about their experiences. She compiled and charted a large amount of data relating to topics such as, socio-economic status, types of food eaten, clothing worn and causes of death. In some of the sessions however, she also added a “future-life progression,” where she guided the subject to a life on earth not in the past, but a specific period in the future, i.e., lives that had not yet happened. Some subjects reported being in spread out, organic and sustainable communities, and not as many in dense urban settings as today. Other subjects reported working in space or engaged in space travel, which they indicated often resulted in early mortality.
As I mentioned in a previous article, the great American psychic, “Sleeping Prophet” Edgar Cayce said that 20% of our life is fixed, and 80% is changeable. If he was correct, the conclusion I draw from that relates to the great amount of free-will choice that we must have, with which we can change our future. In a simple example I give to my clients, if someone says something horrible to you, you have a lot of choices in how you could respond. You could say, “What did you say?”, or “I can’t believe you said that!”, or “What did you mean by that?”, or “#### you” (and leave), or “You are, too.”, or “You’re right, I’m a ####”, or just cry. All of these responses will produce outcomes of some sort with the other person. We can’t always predict how they will respond, but we do have a greater free-will control over what we say and do which starts the ball rolling.
Some of you have done weaving. The yarn goes into the loom and the weaver usually has some idea about how the finished product will look. Weaving is like making choices which produces outcomes in life. The woven rug is the past. The act of weaving is the present where decisions are made and patterns are being created. The yarn going into the loom represents influences and choices for the future. Changes in yarn or changes in the weaver’s design may or may not be in the weaver’s conscious awareness, but these changes can happen and can change the rug.
The psychic or counselor often has an edge in seeing the yarn and predicting what the rest of the rug might look like. Also, if the psychic or counselor senses a negative change coming, they can encourage the weaver to focus more on the pattern, or alert the weaver and suggest another pattern or different yarn which might create a more positive outcome. Some have said that we have numerous alternate realities or outcomes which are possible in each situation, and outside forces or our choices can impel us toward a “road less traveled” or less expected results, which we can perceive as either more positive or negative than our expected direction. Others have also said that we have the opportunity to ascend in any given lifetime.
I am reminded of an example from my own practice which suggests how much free-will choice we may actually have in our lives. Many years ago, I had a male client in his mid-twenties who wanted to know about his past lives. He had already experienced a number of life challenges and was looking for answers. We did a meditative regression session and he saw several past lives. In between regressions we discussed each life and its potential impact on creating events or reactions in this life. Near the end of the session he said, “Can you do a future-life progression?” I said I hadn’t actually done one but thought it could work and was ready to give it a shot. In the first future-life progression, my client saw himself in his next life as a 20-year old man in Cleveland Ohio, who was in prison for drug dealing. After the regression, I was very unsettled and felt something was missing or not quite right. I sensed that there might be an alternative future from what he just saw. I told him that I wanted to do the session again, but include an affirmation that from now on in this life, he would stay clean and healthy, and pursue his spiritual and psychic development. In the second progression for the same future period (next life), my client reported being a Chinese woman living in a penthouse in Singapore, married to a successful businessman. That seemed like an improvement over the Cleveland life but I still felt unsettled. I said that I did not feel that the Singapore life was the only outcome, and I suggested we do one more progression. For the third journey, I asked him to imagine that for the rest of his life he would commit to a spiritual life, staying in the light, and loving, forgiving, healing and releasing all the negativity from this and other lives to the best of his ability. Then we would see what future life might be generated. I used the same procedure for the progression, and during the session I asked, “Where are you?” Silence. Then, “What’s going on?” Again silence. I thought maybe he went into a deep meditation and could not respond. But finally, I asked, “What are you seeing?” He responded, “I don’t know, It’s just Light.” To me that says it all.
Best wishes,
Joe
