My Dream About Going to “Heaven.”

My Dream About Going to “Heaven.”

Several years ago, I had a full-color dream which took me off-guard. In the dream, I was traveling on a conveyor belt, like the ones at the airports, but without sides, and the belt was full of people, in front of me and behind, somewhat tightly packed.  The conveyor belt was traveling through beautiful green rolling meadows, with picturesque streams with ornamental bridges.  It reminded me of the manicured lawns one sees at elite gardens or country clubs.  Looking around, I could see either individual or small groups of animals scattered here and there, some standing and some resting. Many of the small groups were comprised of animals that would not be normally compatible here in the earth plane.  For example, I saw lions with lambs, and dogs or cats with ducks or geese.   In the distance to one side I could see individuals sitting on lawn furniture and having drinks or playing cards, much like people sitting around the 18thgreen after a round of golf.

I asked the guy in front of me “where are we?” and “what is this place?”, and he said, “This is Heaven.” Somewhat shocked, I said to myself, “I’m DEAD? What happened? How did I die?” I did not receive an answer. I began to see in front of me a complex like a giant convention center. In the distance, the continuously moving conveyor belt with the gaggle of apparently dead people disappeared into the convention center through what seemed to be swinging doors, like in a restaurant.  I could sense that the center was made up of huge auditoriums which represented earthly careers or interests like business, politics, science, social service/non-profit, entertainment, military, and so on.

I overheard a couple of people ahead of me saying to each other, “I’m going to this one,” or “I’m going to that one.” Behind me was a quiet, plainly dressed older woman who seemed like she had been single for a long time.  She said out loud, “I don’t want to go there, I love my life, I love my house, I love my garden, I love my animals, and I already miss them.”  Just then we began to pass a small, round, but very tall gazebo on the right side of the belt.  It had a spiral staircase inside, and it seemed to go upward into the sky as far as I could see.  As I began to pass the gazebo, the lady behind me was whisked into it and in an instant, shot up the stairwell and out of sight.  My immediate thought was, “Wait a minute, I think I need to go up that stairwell.” I turned around on the belt and began trying to push through the people behind me to get to the stairwell.  Then I woke up.

For years, I have read about and felt that when we pass, many of us may have the ability to temporarily create whatever we expect the afterlife to look like, whether it is streets of gold, harps and clouds, lions and lambs, or sipping drinks around the 18thgreen at a country club.  Ultimately though, when our after-life creation wears off, we integrate and go to school, help other beings, or perform some other assigned tasks.  I don’t know if what I saw was only a reflection of my own symbols, or also common architypes that others create and experience.  Some aspects of the dream are still a mystery to me, but one of the key things I came away with was that attachment to worldly achievement and passion for our pursuits may provide steps along our path, but appreciation of and unconditional love for the beings and the beauty around us, and gratitude for the opportunities this life affords, might be the most powerful forces on the road to our ascendency.  I hope you find this dream interesting or thought provoking.

Thanks,

Joe Nicols
