Stories for Us to Ponder: Our Spirit Connections with Animal Forms in Past History

In this Installment, without going into the yeas or nays concerning the existence of reincarnation, I wanted to share some experiences I have had over the years with clients’ apparent connections with animal forms in past history.

Edgar Cayce, also known as the “Sleeping Prophet,” was probably America’s best-known psychic.  Before his death in 1945, he had done over 14,000 recorded trance readings, which covered future, current, and historical events.   He also gave thousands of readings which included the past lives of both clients and historical figures.  One of the areas he touched on was related to past human connection with life on Earth.  Paraphrasing him, he suggested that as humans, we first became connected to the Earth when we came here in spirit, and merged with the animal life forms that were evolving here.  Then we got attached, couldn’t get away, and have had to wait for humans to evolve to have a chance to detach spiritually.  I never thought about this concept much until 30 years ago when I began doing past-life meditative regressions at the request of my clients.

Usually my clients experienced going back to lives in countries or civilizations that we recognize in recorded history.  In one case, though, I guided my client back to her first experience in the Earth Plane.  I expected her to describe a life as a cave man or woman, or as an Egyptian, or a person in some other archaic setting.   When I asked what she looked like, I was surprised to hear her say, “I have a 3-foot wingspan.” I asked her what she was, and she said, “I’m a big dragonfly.” I tried to keep my composure and directed questions such as, “What were you in that form to learn?” She gave answers like, “To fly free and to be dense at the same time.” At the end of the session, I asked her “how did that life end?” She said, “A big lizard ate me.”

Another client who was a successful professional came for a session, and when I regressed him to his first experience in the Earth, I asked him who he was and he said, “I’m the head of a baboon troop.” When I asked him how long ago this life occurred, he said, “twenty thousand years.” I sensed intuitively that the zeros might be off and that the time seemed a bit recent for the bright spiritual human in front of me.  Wikipedia says baboons have been around for about 2 million years and I thought 200,000 years or more might be closer.  I asked him questions during the regression about daily activities and interactions. He seemed to be completely immersed in that life and had difficulty finding words with which to respond. Having once been a speech language pathologist and having had child language development, it struck me that his language level was like that of a four or five-year-old. When asked about danger, he would answer with phrases like, “We are afraid of the big black thing, we don’t like it.” He was unable to be specific. For example, when asked alpha-male questions, he did not seem to have access to words like, “in heat,” or “estrus” but would just say, “The smell makes me want to mate with them.” At the end of the session, I asked how that life ended.  He said, “I broke my leg in a crack between two rocks, and a yellow thing got me.” It was not lost on me that in daily life this client was a brilliant articulate person.

I myself have had similar experiences. I have always loved the ocean, and especially snorkeling with marine life.  I also have a dolphin shape in my palm which fades in and fades out over time.  I have seen these images in many of my clients’ hands as well. Many years ago, I had a vivid color dream where I was swimming very rapidly on top of a calm ocean, with two of my buddies, one on each side of me.  When I awoke, I researched and found that we looked like striped dolphins, with colors on both sides of our heads. I found that dream interesting in light of my attraction to fish and water, but the dream faded as time passed.  That is, until I had a client who also had a dolphin symbol in his palm, and I began to tell him about the things that I had mentioned earlier in this article.  As I was talking to him, everything in the room around me went dark and I felt myself whizzing through a black void, passing marine creatures which were lit up in day-glow colors, as if in black light. I saw hot pink fish, bright green jellyfish, a bright yellow octopus, orange squid, etc.  After six or seven seconds I came to, was back in the room, and I went, “whoa!” Mentally I said to my guides, “what was that?” They said, “You just experience being a dolphin hearing in color.” I know from Neuroanatomy that our human brains have big parietal and occipital lobes for vision.  If you have ever seen pictures of dolphins’ brains, they have massive temporal lobes for hearing.

In the above stories the questions arise, were we actually these creatures, or did our spirits merge with them and we remember it?  Or, are these merely spirit or totem animals that we resonate with in a shamanic sense? I don’t know, but I feel we are connected somehow.

I Hope you have found that these stories provide some things to ponder.

Best wishes and stay safe,
Joe
